Nell is estimated to have been born in 2007 and came to the farm in March of 2017 after being rescued from an animal neglect case. Nell was the only survivor of three horses who had been neglected and found starving. Nell is a very sweet girl who took a long time to process the trauma that she endured. But, now, Nell is living a very good life. When she came to us, she had a very severe eye infection, that ultimately cost her the vision in that eye. For her comfort level, we eventually had to have the eye removed. Once we did that and Nell was pain-free for the first time in years, we saw a whole new Nell emerge. Nell lives in our smaller barn on the property and is best friends with another mare named Ginny. She also has two donkeys, two ponies, and two sheep for friends as well.
Nell transformed from a very frightened and untrusting horse to one who is very solid and grounded in herself and her relationships with all of us. It has been beautiful to watch this wonderful mare unfold in front of us.
