ABOUT KIGERCAT HALL
Spring Farm CARES is a constant “becoming”. When we began, our focus was on caring for animals in our sanctuary, mostly horses at that point. But we left room in our “Statement of Specific Purposes” to expand our programs as our understanding of what was needed to “do the best by” those animals, and all animals, matured. The fire which destroyed our first facility, on Halloween night 1993, catapulted us willy-nilly up onto another level of understanding and endeavor. Part of that endeavor involves “Kigercat Hall”, the central portion of the small animal facility built to replace the one destroyed. What is now known as Kigercat Hall was intended for workshops and lectures, and also, for emergencies during harsh winters, as a place for animals to run and play. But, apace with our understanding of the need to touch the human spirit in order to bring about kindness and fairness toward animals, came an understanding of the fact that that spirit could be touched, and non-judgmental, almost subliminal, suggestion given, by the use of the arts … painting and drawing, music, and poetic or comedy/drama performances … artistic and creative presentations carefully chosen and expressly tailored to “bring out the very best” in the psyche of the beholder.
In Kigercat Hall we had a perfect site for these presentations. Since our animal rooms look out and open out into the hall, people coming to such presentations would also be intimately introduced to those animals. And so, since 1996, in addition to the originally intended use of the hall in regard to workshops and lectures, we have presented animal-subject art shows, and concerts, recitals, shows and plays geared to touch the heart strings of our audiences. Of course, please understand that Kigercat Hall, and the entire small animal facility, was planned by one of our cats, George Kigercat, who foresaw so much, including, we realize now, this compassionate and artistic use of his hall.
